Summary	In the snow-laden northern town of H City, a Japanese literature teacher cherishes his friendship with the beloved English teacher, Asami Sanshirou. But on a clear, frigid Christmas Eve, their world shatters. With Sanshirou away, a frantic report leads the narrator to his friend's home, where a scene of unimaginable horror awaits: Sanshirou's wife and cousin brutally murdered, and his eight-year-old son, Haruo, vanished. The only clue: mysterious ski tracks leading away from an open window, then inexplicably disappearing into the silent, starry night. As the narrator races against time, guided by a cryptic colleague, he must unravel a chilling mystery that defies logic and challenges everything he thought he knew about his dearest friend. He must save the child before a sinister "Santa Claus" claims his final victim.
