Pathway to Japanese Literature offers free access to Japanese novels in both their original form and in English translation.
Our collection is based on works from Aozora Bunko, a digital library of Japanese literature now in the public domain.

All translations are produced using advanced technology developed by NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan). While machine-generated, they are carefully translated to preserve the voice and spirit of the original authors.

We invite you to explore widely—read across genres and discover the depth and beauty of Japan’s literary tradition. The more you read, the more pathways you will find into the world of Japanese literature.
