Summary Shimizu Kyōtarō is a man of contradictions: a once-renowned samurai now a drunken recluse, an embarrassment to his younger brother yet possessing an undeniable, unsettling sharpness. Content to merely exist within the Kira Residence, his world is upended when dark rumors ripple through Edo: the vengeful Akō rōnin are plotting to attack Lord Kira, and his family demands Kyōtarō uncover their deadly schemes.

Reluctantly, he agrees, embarking on a "spy mission" so bizarre it begins with him literally putting himself up for sale. As the legendary forty-seven rōnin gather in disguise, Kyōtarō's unconventional methods and unsettling insights hint at a deeper, far more dangerous game. Is he truly a fool, a genius playing a deadly masquerade, or an unwitting pawn in a conflict that will reshape history. Only the haunting sound of his whistle will reveal the truth.
