Summary During Edo's enchanting Bon Festival, the Ibukiya family anticipates a joyous reunion with their esteemed daughter, Yuri, a palace maidservant returning home for a rare visit. Hopes are high for her future, perhaps even a wedding. But the celebration turns to chilling horror when, the very next morning, Yuri is discovered brutally stabbed to death in her own bed.

Investigator Denzō is called to unravel this perplexing crime, diving into a household brimming with unspoken tensions and concealed desires. Suspicions quickly fall on a devoted clerk and a jilted fiancé, each with their own reasons to wish Yuri ill, or perhaps, too well. As whispers of betrayal and hidden passions emerge, Denzō must untangle a knot of desperate lies to expose the true culprit. Amidst the glittering star lanterns, what dark secret led to Yuri’s tragic end, and who within her circle harbored the deadliest intent?
