Summary In a world of samurai honor, young Kobō and her brother Hyōma anticipate a marriage proposal from their respected childhood friend, Tatsunosuke Makino. But when his father dies unexpectedly, Tatsunosuke’s sudden withdrawal and rumors of a scandalous secret plunge their lives into uncertainty. Hyōma’s confrontational visit reveals a shocking truth: Tatsunosuke admits to fathering a child with a servant, leading to his swift disgrace and demotion to a desolate mining outpost.

Shattered by what seems like betrayal, Kobō and Hyōma grapple with dashed dreams and wounded honor. Yet, a desperate, late-night visitor reveals a deeper, heart-wrenching sacrifice behind Tatsunosuke’s actions. Now, Hyōma must race against time, bearing a silent, symbolic gift from Kobō, to unveil a truth that could save Tatsunosuke's future or condemn him forever. What unspoken message can one ripe persimmon convey?
