Summary Eiji, a talented and dedicated apprentice at Edo's esteemed Hokodō scroll mounting workshop, lives a life defined by precision and purpose. But his world shatters when a priceless gold brocade is found in his toolbag, falsely branding him a thief and casting him into the brutal Ishikawajima Workhouse. Stripped of his name, his craft, and his freedom, Eiji is consumed by a burning rage and a desperate need to clear his name.

Amidst the desperate struggle for survival among society's outcasts, he must confront not only the injustice that led him there but also the growing darkness within himself. Haunted by betrayal and wrestling with his desire for vengeance, Eiji finds unexpected bonds of camaraderie that challenge his perception of a cruel world. Can he forge a new path built on a deeper understanding of human connection and resilience, or will the bitterness consume him.
